Whether you play for fun, with friends, or because you want to compete, golfing is a fun sport that has something for everyone. For people who love golfing, a great goal may be vacationing or even retiring to cities that have some of the leading golf courses. Whether you are trying to plan an Algarve golf holiday or retire near your dream course, here are a few cities that are at least worth a visit for golf fans. 

1. San Francisco

San Francisco is a destination hotspot, with plenty of attractions for tourists. From the renowned Golden Gate Bridge to various gardens, museums, planetariums, and more, there is something for everyone. 

As far as golfing, San Francisco is home to several popular courses. The Olympic Club and the San Francisco Golf Club sit side-by-side, with Lake Merced Golf Club not far from the pair. Another great course is Harding Park. This course has hosted two Charles Schwab Cup, a Presidents Cup, and a World Golf Championships event. 

For people who are interested in competition, there is a SanFrancisco City Golf Championship that is held every year. The competition has existed since 1916 and stands above many other golf events.

Sun City is found in South Africa. Many golf enthusiasts may be familiar with renowned South African golf legend Gary Player. He personally designed Sun City’s two 18-hole courses, including the Lost City Golf Course and the Gary Player Golf Course. The Gary Player Golf Course is home of the Nedbank Golf Challenge, while the Lost City Golf Course boasts a desert theme and even has real crocodiles at the 13th hole.

3. Quinta do Lago

Danang Golf Club has also received several awards after opening in 2010. It was recognized as one of the 15 best courses in the world by USA Golf magazine. It also received the title of ‘best golf course in Asia’ in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
