Four of the Best Festivals and Events in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Area

If you’re renting an RV, you probably have a rustic, outdoorsy place in mind. Although it’s true that RVs are great for outdoor adventures, not everyone knows that they’re great for big city adventures too!

One of the best places to drive your RV and camp out for a while is the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area. Not only is it home to the Mall of America, which is a family favorite, but there are plenty of unforgettable festivals and events that take place in the area throughout the year that are definitely worth a visit.

Minnesota State Fair

You simply can’t miss the Minnesota State Fair. It’s the largest state fair in the United States, according to average daily attendance, and only comes in second to the State Fair of Texas in terms of overall attendance, so you can bet there is plenty to do!

Events and attractions vary every year, but a few things you can plan on doing year after year include:

  • Going down the Giant Slide
  • Marveling at the butter sculpture
  • Running 5km in the Milk Run
  • Checking out the award-winning barn animals
  • Riding the River Raft Ride
  • Taking the State Fair History Walking Tour

Don’t forget to eat some cheese curds, catch a musical or comedy act, and do some people watching!

Festival of Nations

The Festival of Nations is a big deal. It is the most diverse multicultural festival in the US, but it’s also the oldest, having started all the way back in 1932.

Nearly 100 ethnic groups come together for a multi-day festival that showcases dancing, performances, exhibits, demonstrations, and of course, plenty of food. It’s a great way to learn a little more about your cultural heritage while learning about many others.

Minnesota Renaissance Festival

There’s nothing like going to a Renaissance festival, especially one that has been around as long, and is popular, as the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

The first festival was held all the way back in 1971. Today, there are over 700 entertainers, 275 crafters, and 120 food booths. It hosts tens of thousands of guests every year.

Dress up in your Renaissance best, catch a show, drink a little beer, and eat a turkey leg. Just make sure you don’t waste too much of your time standing in line, especially if you don’t know what’s at the end!

Saint Paul Winter Carnival

Even though it gets really cold, the fun doesn’t stop in Minneapolis-Saint Paul! Don’t be afraid to visit the city for a quick weekend getaway to check out the Saint Paul Winter Carnival in January and February. In operation since 1886, it features indoor and outdoor activities like parades, snow carving competitions, ice golf, and more.

Whether you want to get away for a weekend or you’re looking for a unique way to spend your next vacation, you should definitely consider Minneapolis-Saint Paul. There’s always a fun festival or event to check out, no matter what time of year you go!
